Installing Check Valves

Check valves may also be required depending on the pump setting and system design. They help control water movement through the discharge piping when the pump stops.

For deep pump installations, more than one check valve may be used. The spacing and number should follow the pump manufacturer's recommendations and the requirements of the particular water system.

Electrical wires must be protected while the pump and pipe assembly are lowered into the well. Sharp edges or components associated with check valves can potentially damage the insulation.

A suitable protective shield or cable protection system can help prevent the wire insulation from rubbing against the inside of the well casing. Protecting the electrical cable is important because damage to the wiring can create electrical problems and may require the pump assembly to be removed for repairs.

Lowering the Pump Assembly

Continue adding sections of drop pipe until the required pump depth is reached. Each section should be securely connected before the next section is added.

The final pipe section connects to the drop pipe connection located at the bottom of the spool assembly. Before completing the connection, make sure the pipe is properly aligned and the connection is clean.

After tightening the final connection, inspect the sealing components. Rubber O-rings should be clean and free from dirt or debris.

A suitable lubricant can be applied to the O-rings according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Proper lubrication helps the seals move into position without unnecessary damage during assembly.
