Macrobid Before and After: What to Expect During UTI Treatment
5. Can Macrobid treat a kidney infection?
No. It is not indicated for pyelonephritis. Fever or flank pain needs medical evaluation, and a different UTI medication from A2Z RX would not be a substitute for an exam.
6. What if I miss a dose of Macrobid?
Take it when you remember unless the next dose is near. Do not double up. Keep your Macrobid 100 mg dose schedule consistent, roughly 12 hours apart.
7. Is Macrobid safe during pregnancy?
It is used earlier in pregnancy when a prescriber judges it appropriate, but it is avoided at term or near delivery. Discuss Macrobid in pregnancy with your obstetric clinician first.
8. Do I need a prescription for Macrobid?
Yes. It is a prescription-only antibiotic in the United States. You can order Macrobid online through a licensed pharmacy once a valid prescription is in place.
9. What is the difference between Macrobid and Macrodantin?
Both contain nitrofurantoin, but Macrobid is a twice-daily monohydrate/macrocrystals capsule, while Macrodantin is macrocrystals dosed more often. Your prescriber chooses between Macrobid and generic nitrofurantoin for your case.
10. When should I call my doctor during UTI treatment?
Call if there is no improvement after two to three days, or sooner for fever, back or flank pain, cough or breathlessness, numbness, yellow skin, or severe diarrhea. Support for Macrobid questions is available at 1-866-A2ZRXUS.
