I Lost the Weight. Now What? The GLP-1 Maintenance Questions Nobody Prepared Me For
The scale finally moved where I wanted it to. Then I realized losing the weight was only one part of the conversation.
The “after” is still part of the journey
Maybe that is the part I wish someone had explained to me earlier.
There isn't really an “after.”
There is the next phase.
Weight loss is one phase.
Maintenance is another.
And maintenance isn't about proving that you can hold on to a number through sheer willpower.
It is about understanding what helps you stay well, what changes when life changes, and what kind of support you need when your body or circumstances change.
The current evidence makes one thing clear: for many people, obesity treatment is not a short episode that ends the moment a goal weight is reached. Ongoing treatment and follow up can be part of maintaining health benefits and reducing the risk of weight recurrence.
That doesn't make reaching your goal less meaningful.
It makes the next chapter worth preparing for.
