Wide Shoes for Women: How to Find the Best Fit for Comfort
- Wear your usual socks.
- Stand with your weight evenly distributed.
- Make sure your toes aren't touching the front.
- Check that the widest part of your foot sits comfortably within the shoe.
- Walk around for several minutes.
- Check for heel slipping.
- Look for pressure points around the toes and sides.
If one foot is larger than the other, fit the shoes to the larger foot.
Should You Buy a Bigger Size Instead?
Usually, no.
If the problem is width, increasing the shoe length isn't necessarily the best solution.
For example, moving from a women's size 8 to size 9 may give your forefoot slightly more space, but it also adds unnecessary length. Your foot may slide forward, increasing friction and reducing stability.
A properly fitted wide shoe in the correct length is usually a better approach.
Common Mistakes When Buying Wide Shoes
Choosing Based Only on the Width Label
A shoe marked "wide" can still have a narrow toe box.
Ignoring Shoe Depth
If your foot feels compressed from above, you may need extra depth.
