Why TEAS Exams Create Pressure for Healthcare Students

Why TEAS Exams Create Pressure for Healthcare Students

Many students know the material thoroughly during study sessions but struggle to demonstrate their knowledge under timed examination conditions.

Performance anxiety may lead to:

  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Racing thoughts
  • Increased heart rate
  • Forgetting familiar information
  • Poor time management

These reactions are common during high-pressure assessments and do not necessarily reflect a student's true academic ability.

Building confidence through regular practice tests can gradually reduce exam-related anxiety while improving familiarity with question formats.

Limited Opportunities Increase the Pressure

Some institutions limit how many times applicants can attempt the TEAS examination within a certain period. In addition, schools may require waiting periods before retesting.

Knowing that there may be only one or two opportunities before the next admission cycle increases emotional pressure considerably. Students often feel that every question carries enormous importance, making it difficult to remain calm throughout the examination.

Building Confidence Before Exam Day

Building confidence is a process of preparing consistently over a period of time, not last-minute preparation.

Pupils who work hard over a period of weeks can often be better attuned to what is in an exam and have developed skills in problem-solving. Making tiny improvements every day will have a significant impact over time and will make even difficult topics more manageable, thus reducing the overall level of anxiety.

Keep in mind that the goal of healthcare education is to produce compassionate, educated healthcare workers. The student entrance examination is just one part of a long education program.
