What Should I Ask a Luxury Home Builder Before Hiring Them?

The contract should clearly define the scope of work, costs, payment schedule, materials, responsibilities, change-order procedures, timeline expectations, and other applicable terms. CSLB recommends putting project expectations in a written contract.

Is the lowest construction bid the best choice?

Not necessarily. A lower bid may have a different scope, allowances, materials, or exclusions. Comparing equivalent scopes and evaluating the builder's overall experience and quality is more meaningful.

Final Thoughts

Hiring a luxury home builder should begin with questions, not assumptions. Before making a decision, homeowners should investigate the builder's experience, licensing, portfolio, construction process, project management, pricing, contracts, quality standards, communication, technology capabilities, and post-construction support.
