Uro Dynamics

The healthcare team explains the procedure before beginning. The test is performed using appropriate equipment and monitoring techniques to obtain objective information about bladder function.

The specific duration can vary depending on which components of the urodynamic assessment are required.

Is Urodynamics Painful?

Urodynamic testing can cause temporary discomfort, particularly when a catheter is used. However, the procedure is generally performed without sedation.

Patients should communicate with the clinical team if they experience significant discomfort during the assessment. The procedure can then be explained and adjusted as appropriate.

After standard urodynamic testing, most patients can return home. The clinic's current guidance notes that driving is generally possible because sedation is not normally required, although individual circumstances may vary.

How Should You Prepare for a Urodynamics Test?

Preparation depends on the type of urodynamic study being performed and the reason for the test.

Before your appointment:

• Follow the instructions provided by the clinic.
• Inform the doctor about all medicines you are taking.
• Bring previous urine reports, scans, and urology records if available.
• Tell the medical team about previous urinary procedures or surgeries.
• Ask whether any medication needs to be adjusted before testing.

Some medicines can affect bladder function. However, patients should not stop or change prescribed medication without medical advice. The clinic recommends discussing medications with the team when arranging the test.
