Understand the USMLE Exam You Are Preparing For

Before starting your preparation, understand what your particular USMLE Step tests.

USMLE Step 1

Step 1 focuses mainly on foundational medical sciences and their application to clinical medicine. Important areas include:

• Anatomy
• Biochemistry
• Physiology
• Pathology
• Pharmacology
• Microbiology
• Immunology
• Genetics
• Behavioral sciences

The goal is not simply to memorize facts. You should understand how basic science concepts relate to diseases, diagnosis, and treatment.

USMLE Step 2 CK

Step 2 CK focuses primarily on clinical knowledge. You should be comfortable with:

• Diagnosis
• Patient management
• Preventive medicine
• Clinical decision-making
• Interpretation of investigations
• Treatment principles

Clinical scenarios are central to the examination, so practicing application-based questions is essential.
