Pain After Knee Replacement Surgery

Pain After Knee Replacement Surgery

Take Prescribed Medication

Take pain medication exactly as instructed by your surgical team.

During the early recovery period, waiting until pain becomes severe before taking prescribed medication may make it harder to exercise comfortably.

Do not change the dose or stop prescribed medication without discussing it with your doctor.

Use Ice as Advised

Applying ice wrapped in a cloth can help reduce swelling and discomfort.

Bharath Orthopaedics' current recovery guidance recommends using ice for approximately 15 to 20 minutes at a time, particularly when swelling increases or after exercise.

Never apply ice directly to the skin.

Elevate the Leg

Elevating the leg while resting can help manage swelling.

Support the lower leg and ankle rather than keeping a pillow directly underneath the knee for prolonged periods, as this can encourage the knee to remain bent.

Follow Physiotherapy
