North America Chicory Market Size, Share, Growth, Trends & Forecast 2026–2034
Limited domestic chicory production is a major challenge for the North American market. Although regional demand for chicory and its derivatives is increasing, manufacturers continue to depend heavily on international suppliers.
North American chicory imports reached approximately 1.3 thousand tons in 2024, declining 7.9% compared with the previous year. Imports had previously reached around 1.9 thousand tons in 2022.
Meanwhile, domestic production remained extremely limited, falling to approximately 52 kg in 2024.
This dependence exposes manufacturers to international supply disruptions, transportation expenses, exchange-rate fluctuations, weather-related agricultural risks, and import price volatility.
Developing domestic cultivation and processing infrastructure could help strengthen supply-chain resilience. However, this would require investment in agricultural production, processing facilities, specialized supply networks, and farmer participation.
Limited Consumer Awareness and Competition
Despite increasing interest in chicory-based products, the ingredient remains relatively niche compared with conventional coffee, decaffeinated beverages, and other functional fibers.
Its distinctive earthy and slightly bitter taste may also limit acceptance among consumers unfamiliar with roasted chicory.
Additionally, manufacturers face competition from herbal beverages, grain-based coffee substitutes, mushroom beverages, decaffeinated coffee, and alternative prebiotic ingredients.
Companies therefore need to focus on product innovation, convenient formats, effective branding, taste improvements, and consumer education to strengthen market penetration.
