Men’s Diabetic Shoes: How to Choose the Right Fit for Everyday Comfort
Your toes need space without being pushed together or pressed against the sides of the shoe. Look at the shape of the toe box as well as the width label.
A shoe may feel generous through the middle but narrow sharply at the front. Men with bunions or hammertoes may need extra-wide or deeper footwear, according to NIDDK guidance.
2. Enough Depth
Depth is the vertical space inside the shoe. It matters when the tops of your toes or your instep press against the upper.
If you use prescribed inserts, the shoe must accommodate them without becoming cramped. Bring them to the fitting rather than assuming that a wider shoe will provide sufficient room.
3. A Smooth Interior
Check the lining for rough seams, folded fabric, or damaged areas. Inspect inside the shoes before wearing them, even after you have found a comfortable pair.
A pebble or small object can cause an injury that someone with reduced sensation may not feel. CDC guidance recommends checking for objects and ensuring the lining is smooth.
4. Adjustable Fastenings
Laces or adjustable straps can help you secure the shoe around your foot. Compare how easily you can open, close, and adjust each pair.
The fastening should hold your heel without requiring excessive pressure across the instep. If tightening the shoe creates discomfort elsewhere, try a different shape.
5. Suitable Cushioning and Inserts
