Leading Pipeline Lupus Nephritis Therapies
The current development landscape includes therapies representing different biological targets, molecular platforms, administration routes, and clinical development stages.
Ianalumab from Novartis is being evaluated in Phase III and functions as a BAFF-R inhibitor and ADCC-mediated B-cell depletor, with subcutaneous administration. SIM0278, developed by Simcere Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., is in Phase II and is being investigated as an interleukin-2 replacement through injectable administration.
IPG11406, from Nanjing Immunophage Biotech Co., Ltd., is being evaluated in Phase I/II and targets EBI2, with oral administration offering a potentially convenient route for patients. KYV-101 from Kyverna Therapeutics is undergoing Phase I/II development and targets CD19 through parenteral administration.
Century Therapeutics is advancing CNTY-101 in Phase I. The therapy uses a CD19 CAR-NK approach designed to eliminate B cells and is administered intravenously. ADI-001 from Adicet Bio is also in Phase I and uses a CD20-directed approach delivered through IV infusion.
These candidates demonstrate the broadening scientific focus within lupus nephritis development, particularly toward therapies capable of selectively influencing B cells and other immune pathways implicated in disease progression.

Market Drivers Supporting Lupus Nephritis Drug Development
According to Stuti Mahajan, Consulting Manager at DelveInsight, the rising burden of autoimmune diseases and increasing adoption of targeted biologics and innovative immunosuppressive therapies are among the important factors supporting growth within the lupus nephritis treatment market.
The continued need for improved renal outcomes is also encouraging investment in novel therapeutic mechanisms. Existing treatment approaches can be effective for many patients, but long-term disease management remains challenging because of disease heterogeneity, treatment-related adverse effects, relapse risk, and the possibility of progressive kidney damage.
The development of targeted therapies could potentially improve treatment precision by addressing specific immune pathways associated with disease activity. At the same time, cell-based approaches are generating significant interest because of their potential to produce deeper immune modulation in patients with difficult-to-treat autoimmune disease.
