How Do You Prevent Decorative Items From Breaking During a Move?

7. Is professional packing worth it for valuable decorations?

For expensive, antique, unusually shaped, or highly sentimental items, professional packing can be worthwhile. Experienced movers may have specialty materials and techniques that provide additional protection.

8. How can My Good Movers help with a decorative-item move?

My Good Movers is a moving directory that can help you research moving companies and compare available moving services. When your move includes fragile décor, you can use the directory to identify movers and then ask each company about packing and specialty handling.

9. Should heavy decorative items go at the bottom of a box?

Generally, heavier items should be placed lower while lighter pieces go above them. However, each item should still have adequate cushioning and shouldn't be forced into a box.

10. What should I do if a decorative item breaks during a move?

Take photographs of the damage and keep the item, box, and packing materials until you've documented everything. If a moving company handled the shipment, contact them promptly and review the applicable protection or claims procedures.

Conclusion

Moving decorative items doesn't have to feel like a gamble.

With the right supplies, careful wrapping, sturdy boxes, smart weight distribution, and clear labeling, you can significantly reduce the chance of damage. The key is to slow down and give fragile belongings the protection they deserve.

Remember the basics: wrap individual items, cushion every gap, protect vulnerable corners, avoid overloading boxes, and label fragile packages clearly.
