Food Allergy Market on the Rise: 5 Emerging Therapies to Watch | DelveInsight
The food allergy treatment landscape is undergoing a significant transformation as innovative therapies progress through clinical development and address limitations associated with conventional management. Companies including DBV Technologies, Novartis, Aravax, ALK-Abelló, InnoUp Farma, Allergy Therapeutics, Intrommune Therapeutics, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, RAPT Therapeutics, and other emerging innovators are advancing new approaches aimed at improving safety, convenience, and long-term disease control.
Food allergy management has traditionally relied on avoiding trigger foods and using an adrenaline auto-injector (AAI) when severe allergic reactions occur. Antihistamines, corticosteroids, and bronchodilators may help relieve certain symptoms, but they are not substitutes for epinephrine during anaphylaxis. Intramuscular epinephrine administered into the lateral thigh remains the preferred first-line intervention because of its rapid action. Intravenous epinephrine is generally reserved for hospital settings where patients can be closely monitored.
The emergence of needle-free epinephrine formulations could further change the treatment landscape. Intranasal and sublingual approaches are being developed to provide more convenient administration, potentially helping patients overcome needle anxiety while reducing the practical challenges associated with carrying injectable devices.

Although allergen avoidance continues to be an essential component of disease management, therapeutic innovation is increasingly focused on modifying the immune mechanisms responsible for allergic reactions. Oral immunotherapy (OIT), for example, uses carefully controlled and gradually increasing quantities of an allergen to build desensitization. While clinical studies have demonstrated encouraging results, challenges remain around selecting appropriate patients, identifying the optimal age for intervention, and extending the approach beyond peanut allergy.
Currently, peanut allergen powder PALFORZIA, omalizumab marketed as XOLAIR, and epinephrine nasal spray NEFFY represent important approved treatment options. PALFORZIA is specifically indicated for peanut allergy, while XOLAIR provides a broader approach to reducing allergic reactions associated with multiple foods.
The pipeline is expanding rapidly, with several candidates pursuing different mechanisms and routes of administration. DelveInsight estimates that the food allergy market across the seven major markets, including the United States, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Japan, reached approximately USD 2.7 billion in 2025. The market is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 9.4% through 2036, supported by novel product launches, expanding therapeutic applications, improved disease recognition, and increasing awareness of food allergy management.
Aparna Thakur, Project Manager, Forecasting at DelveInsight, noted that first-in-class therapies, advances in genetic testing, and greater awareness are expected to contribute to continued expansion of the 7MM food allergy market through 2036. Growing investment and strategic activity among pharmaceutical companies are also reinforcing the competitive environment.
DBV Technologies' Viaskin Peanut and Viaskin Milk
DBV Technologies is advancing its proprietary epicutaneous immunotherapy platform through Viaskin Peanut and Viaskin Milk. These wearable patches are designed to deliver controlled quantities of allergen through the skin, with the objective of gradually modifying the immune response while potentially reducing systemic exposure compared with oral immunotherapy.
Viaskin Peanut, also referred to as DBV712, is being developed for young children with peanut allergy and has progressed into Phase III clinical development. By delivering small amounts of peanut protein through the skin, the therapy seeks to support immune desensitization through a non-invasive administration method.
Viaskin Milk is being investigated for cow's milk allergy and is currently in Phase I/II development. The treatment similarly aims to deliver low doses of milk allergen through the skin and could offer an alternative to traditional oral approaches.
In March 2026, DBV Technologies entered into an eight-year manufacturing and supply agreement with Fareva La Vallée, with an option for a further two-year renewal, covering the exclusive manufacture and supply of Viaskin Peanut source material.
DelveInsight expects the potential launch of Viaskin to strengthen competition in food allergy treatment during the latter portion of the forecast period. The therapy is projected to achieve substantial commercial potential in the United States by 2036.
Aquestive Therapeutics' Epinephrine Sublingual Film
ANAPHYLM, also known as AQST-109, is an investigational epinephrine formulation being developed by Aquestive Therapeutics for severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. The product uses a compact oral film that rapidly dissolves inside the mouth without requiring water or conventional swallowing.
The candidate is being developed using Aquestive's PharmFilm technology and is intended to provide a portable alternative to injectable epinephrine. Its small form factor could improve ease of use and portability for individuals who need to carry emergency treatment. ANAPHYLM is currently in Phase III development, with the FDA having conditionally accepted the proposed trade name pending regulatory approval.
Novartis' Remibrutinib
Remibrutinib, or LOU064, is an oral Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibitor designed to suppress mast cell and basophil activation, which are important components of allergic responses. Novartis is evaluating the therapy across immune-mediated diseases, including food allergy.
The candidate has produced encouraging Phase II findings in peanut allergy and has demonstrated rapid symptom control, sustained activity, and a favorable safety profile. According to Novartis' February 2026 Q4 2025 presentation, the company anticipated moving remibrutinib into Phase III development during the second half of 2026. Its oral administration could offer an attractive alternative for patients seeking convenient treatment options, although longer-term use and considerations surrounding pediatric populations remain areas of evaluation.

Aravax's PVX108
PVX108 represents a peptide-based immunotherapy approach designed to modify the immune response underlying allergic disease. Instead of administering peanut proteins directly, the candidate uses engineered peptides intended to selectively target relevant T cells.
This mechanism could potentially reduce the risk associated with exposure to intact food allergens while avoiding some of the dose-escalation complexities associated with conventional allergen-based immunotherapy. PVX108 is currently being evaluated in a Phase II food allergy study. Results from research examining a simplified once-monthly dosing strategy were expected later in 2026.
