Everyday Health Habits for Better Energy and Long-Term Wellbeing
Regular Movement Has a Broad Health Role
Physical activity is another basic part of maintaining health. It does not have to mean spending hours in a gym. Walking, cycling, dancing, household activities, recreational sports, and structured exercise can all involve physical movement.
WHO recommends that adults aged 18–64 aim for 150–300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week, or 75–150 minutes of vigorous activity, or a combination of both. Adults should also include muscle-strengthening activities at least twice a week.
This amount can be divided throughout the week. That makes the recommendation more realistic for people with work, family, study, or other responsibilities.
Simple ways to increase movement include:
- Take a short walk during a work break.
- Use stairs when practical.
- Walk for nearby errands when possible.
- Spend time doing recreational activities that involve movement.
- Include strength exercises during the week.
- Break up long periods of sitting.
- Choose activities that are enjoyable enough to repeat.
The CDC reports that regular physical activity can support sleep quality, reduce anxiety, and lower the risk of several chronic health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.
People do not need to become highly athletic to benefit from being more active. Someone starting from a low activity level can begin gradually and increase activity according to their abilities.
People with certain medical conditions, disabilities, or specific exercise concerns may need individualized advice from a healthcare professional. General recommendations are useful starting points, but individual health circumstances can change what type and amount of activity is appropriate.

Nutrition and exercise receive a lot of attention, but daily recovery also matters. Sleep, relaxation, social connection, and reasonable management of stress are all part of a broader approach to wellbeing.
A useful routine can include:
