Does Outreach Timing Affect Athletic Trainer Responses? A Campaign Data Analysis | EducationDataLists

MailerLite's 2026 study of 20,000 campaigns found that top-performing campaigns were 27.52% more likely to use subscriber filters than lower-performing campaigns. They were also 22.58% more likely to include custom preheaders, while top-performing subject lines were 45% more likely to fall between 20 and 40 characters.

For an Athletic Trainer Mailing List, segmentation could include:

  • Secondary-school versus college athletic trainers
  • Public versus private institutions
  • Geographic region
  • Full-time versus other employment contexts where available
  • Athletic department versus clinical setting
  • Professional interests or job responsibilities
  • New versus established contacts

The objective is to make timing and message relevance work together.

A highly relevant message sent at an imperfect time can still generate interest. Conversely, a perfectly timed message with little relevance may be ignored.

How Should Marketers Measure Whether Timing Affects Responses?

A timing experiment needs more than open-rate reporting.

MailerLite reports a 2025 median open rate of 43.46% and click rate of 2.09% across more than 3.6 million campaigns. It also cautions that Apple Mail Privacy Protection can inflate open metrics, making clicks a more useful engagement indicator in many cases.

For an athletic-trainer campaign, track:

  1. Delivered rate — Were messages successfully delivered?
  2. Open rate — Useful directionally, with privacy limitations.
  3. Click rate — Did recipients take a measurable action?
  4. Reply rate — Did the recipient initiate a conversation?
  5. Positive reply rate — Did the response indicate relevant interest?
  6. Meeting or referral rate — Did outreach produce a sales conversation?
  7. Unsubscribe and complaint rates — Did timing or frequency create audience fatigue?

Most importantly, compare equivalent audience segments.

If one group receives an email at 9 a.m. and another at 6 p.m., but the messages, audience composition, and offers differ, the result cannot reliably be attributed to timing.
