This can provide flexibility, but it can also create greater uncertainty.

Before choosing a variable plan, understand how frequently the rate can change and what factors may influence future pricing.

ComEd Municipal Aggregation

Another option customers may encounter is municipal aggregation.

Under municipal aggregation, a municipality or other eligible local government entity may negotiate electricity supply arrangements for qualifying customers.

This does not eliminate the customer's ComEd delivery service.

The Illinois Commerce Commission explains that customers in ComEd and Ameren Illinois service territories can have several supply choices even when their community has an aggregation program.

Customers should carefully review aggregation notices and understand:

• Whether participation is automatic
• How to opt out
• Contract duration
• Supplier pricing
• Renewal conditions
• Available alternatives

Municipal aggregation can be useful, but it should still be evaluated against other available electricity supply options.
