Atopic Dermatitis Market Set for Strong Growth Through Biologics and Targeted Therapies

The anticipated introduction of new treatments is expected to further transform the competitive environment. Rocatinlimab from Kyowa Kirin and Amgen, Orismilast from UNION Therapeutics, Bosakitug from Biosion and Aclaris Therapeutics, Temtokibart from LEO Pharma, and Rademikibart from Connect Biopharma represent several important pipeline programs.

Sadaf Javed, Manager of Forecasting and Analytics at DelveInsight, highlighted Eli Lilly as a potential major participant in the atopic dermatitis market. Its portfolio includes OLUMIANT and EBGLYSS, providing opportunities across the EU4, UK, and Japan. OLUMIANT, however, is not approved by the US FDA for atopic dermatitis, reflecting Lilly’s focus on selected international markets.

Despite expectations that DUPIXENT could maintain a leading position for the next decade or longer, considerable opportunities remain, particularly among patients previously exposed to DUPIXENT.

Atopic Dermatitis Treatment Landscape

Current treatment approaches depend on disease severity and patient characteristics. Topical therapies such as emollients, topical corticosteroids, and topical calcineurin inhibitors remain important components of disease management. Phototherapy, systemic corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, and targeted systemic therapies may be considered for patients with more severe or refractory disease.

The approval of DUPIXENT in 2017 represented a major milestone in the treatment landscape. Dupilumab subsequently expanded its use across multiple age groups, providing an important targeted treatment option for patients with moderate-to-severe disease.

Other approved therapies include EBGLYSS, RINVOQ, CIBINQO, and ADBRY/ADTRALZA. Japan has also approved additional treatments, including VTAMA, MITCHGA, MOIZERTO, and CORECTIM ointment.

The expanding treatment landscape demonstrates the increasing shift toward targeted mechanisms capable of addressing specific inflammatory pathways associated with atopic dermatitis.

Atopic Dermatitis Competitive Pipeline

The competitive pipeline contains several differentiated approaches that could influence future treatment standards. Kyowa Kirin and Amgen are developing Rocatinlimab, a human monoclonal antibody directed against OX40. The therapy is being investigated for moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis and may offer a novel approach by selectively targeting pathogenic T-cell activity.

According to Amgen’s third-quarter 2025 financial report, the Phase III ROCKET program included eight studies evaluating Rocatinlimab in moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis, with more than 3,300 participants enrolled and recruitment completed across the trials.
