Adding Dry Cleaning to an Existing Laundry? What Changes in Your Equipment and Workflow?

Before investing, understand how the new service will change your equipment, workflow, space and operating requirements.

A few occasional orders may not justify building a complete dry cleaning business setup. Consistent demand provides a much stronger basis for evaluating equipment and operational requirements.

What Equipment Changes When You Add Dry Cleaning to a Laundry?

A conventional laundry workflow may already have commercial washers, tumble dryers and basic ironing or finishing equipment.

Professional dry cleaning creates a separate processing route.

Depending on the services offered and the selected cleaning system, the setup may require a commercial dry cleaning machine, spotting or pre-treatment facilities, compatible chemicals, garment finishing equipment, steam or pressing equipment, garment racks and dedicated inspection and packing space.

The basic difference can be understood as:

Laundry:
Garment/Textile → Washing → Drying → Finishing

Dry Cleaning:
Garment → Inspection → Process Selection → Pre-Treatment Where Required → Cleaning → Finishing → Quality Check

A hydrocarbon dry cleaning machine may form part of this setup where the selected equipment and intended garment-care process are designed for an approved hydrocarbon solvent system.

Machine selection should never be based on the word “hydrocarbon” alone. Exact solvent compatibility, operating requirements and chemical systems depend on the specific machine and manufacturer's specifications.

The supporting equipment also matters. If garments leave the cleaning machine properly cleaned but cannot be professionally pressed, shaped or finished, the customer may still be dissatisfied with the final result.

Think about the complete process rather than one machine.
