Zakir Khan to Take 4-5 Year Break from Stand-Up Comedy

Stand-up comedian Zakir Khan has announced that he will be taking a long break from comedy, possibly lasting four to five years, to prioritise his health and personal well-being.

Stand-up comedian Zakir Khan has announced that he will be taking a long break from comedy, possibly lasting four to five years, to prioritise his health and personal well-being. The announcement came during a recent live performance in Hyderabad as part of his ongoing stand-up special Papa Yaar, and was later reported by Screen.

A video clip from the show has since been widely shared on social media, capturing an emotional moment where Zakir addressed the audience directly. Speaking candidly, he revealed that he plans to step away from the stage until around 2028–29, or even 2030. He described the decision as necessary to focus on his health and to sort out other important aspects of his life. Thanking the audience, Zakir said that those present at the show held a special place in his heart and that their support meant more to him than words could express.

The comedian later reinforced the announcement through his Instagram Stories after landing in Dubai. He wrote that every show until June 20 would be a celebration, encouraging fans to attend wherever possible. Acknowledging that he would not be able to visit many cities this time, Zakir urged audiences to make an extra effort to come and be part of what may be his last live performances for several years.

Zakir Khan has previously spoken openly about his health struggles. Last year, he revealed that he had been unwell for more than a year but continued working due to professional obligations. He reflected on the toll taken by nearly a decade of nonstop touring, which included constant travel, multiple shows in a single day, sleepless nights, early morning flights, and an erratic lifestyle with no fixed routine.

In earlier posts, Zakir admitted that while he deeply loves being on stage, ignoring his health for so long was no longer an option. He explained that the decision to pause his career was emotionally difficult but necessary before it was “too late.” Following the announcement, fans across the country have flooded social media with messages of love and encouragement, applauding Zakir Khan’s honesty and supporting his decision to put health first after years of relentless dedication to comedy.
