What Trusted Contacts Was

It was a feature by Facebook that let you choose 3–5 friends whom you trust, to help you regain access to your account if you got locked out — for example, forgot your password, or lost access to your email/phone. 

If you were locked out, Facebook would send security codes to those trusted friends. You needed to collect a certain number of codes (e.g. from 3 friends) to prove your identity and reset your account.

What Changed / Why It’s No Longer Working

Facebook has phased out this feature (Trusted Contacts). That means:

The ability to use Trusted Contacts has been removed in many accounts. It’s no longer available as a recovery option in many places. 

Facebook recommends other security/back‑recovery mechanisms instead, such as two‑factor authentication (2FA), making sure your phone number and email are up to date, etc.
